About 10 percent of Dayton’s population is of Irish descent, meaning that Dayton takes St. Patrick’s Day very seriously. And of course, even if you aren’t of Irish descent, everyone can be Irish for a day.

So, if you’re looking for the best events to celebrate this legendary holiday — safely — we’ve come up with a partial guide. It’s just a start, because some destinations are still ironing out their plans. But here are some of the places offering the best and brightest St. Patrick’s Day events in the Dayton area.

Full Frontal and Ithika will be performing on St. Patrick’s Day at Troll Pub Dayton. The celebration starts at noon and will take place outdoors. Tents will help accommodate social distancing. Full Frontal will be taking the stage from 3-5 p.m. and Ithika will be performing from 6-8 p.m. There will be a $10 cover at the door. More details regarding Troll Pub Dayton’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration will be announced soon.

The Downtown Tipp City Partnership will be hosting its annual St. Paddy’s Day Beer Crawl on Friday, March 5 from 5-8 p.m. The event will begin at Mauk Cabinets by Design where participants will stop to check-in, receive their wristband, map and first sample. Tickets are $30 per person and will include a free souvenir cup and 10 beer samples from a number of businesses throughout the downtown area. To purchase a ticket to the event, visit to the Downtown Tipp City Partnership’s Facebook event page or Eventbrite page. This year, the event will be featuring Irish-style Ohio craft beers.

As always, guests will be asked to follow state COVID mandates.

When: Friday, March 5 from 5-8 p.m.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at the Brew Barn

Over the span of two days, on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13, the Moeller Brew Barn in Troy will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with live music, beer, food specials and fun in a heated tent. Live performances will include Paul Rosewood on Friday from 7-9 p.m., Rumors from 3-6 p.m. and Drab Irish Band from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday. More details will be announced at a later date.

When: Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

☘️Shamrock Shuffle 5K walk/run

Start your St. Patty’s Day celebration off right with the 8th annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K. Race proceeds support the St. Patrick School Alumni & Friends Fund. Participants can purchase their tickets beforehand by visiting the Shamrock Shuffle’s website. Pre-race registration can be accomplished through March 1 and is $25 with a t-shirt. Same-day check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and registration costs $35 without a t-shirt. Children ages seven through 12 can register for $20, while those under the age of six can participate in the race for free.

Early packet pickup is available on March 19 from 4-6 p.m. at the Troy Memorial Stadium.

Prizes will be handed out to the top three in each division, as well as to the top three male and female runners/walkers overall.

Due to the pandemic, there will be no breakfast after the race and the awards ceremony will take place after the event at the Troy Memorial Stadium.

When: Saturday, March 20, at 8:30 a.m. (same-day check-in begins at 7:30 a.m.)

☘️St. Patrick's Day at O'Caroline's

Troy’s famous restaurant The Caroline will become Irish just for one day. O’Caroline’s will be serving up a St. Patrick’s Day special from 4–9 p.m., featuring $2 pints of Guinness. Specials include: Reuben Stew topped with shredded Swiss and rye croutons, Bangers and Mash with Guinness Jus, Cabbage Rolls over Mashed Potatoes with Tomato Sauce, Hand-Carved Corned Beef With Stout Braised Cabbage, Battered Fish and Chips with Cole Slaw and The Caroline Corned Beef Sandwich Served with House-made Chips.

☘️St. Patrick's Day at McKinley’s Pub

This themed event will have lots of beer, green beer, shot specials and food supplied by the Best Thing Smokin food truck. Karen May will be playing the bagpipes at 10:30 a.m.

☘️Buckeye Harley-Davidson St. Patrick’s Day Party

Harley-Davidson is getting the party started early on Friday, March 12 with live music from Pearl Street, food from the Smokin’ Inferno food truck and beer. Those who make a $5 SICSA donation will be given entry into the raffle for a Leprechaun Party Basket. Additionally, all of the tips from the beer and beer service will go to SICSA of Dayton.

Speakeasy Sweets and Redesigned Dreamery will be selling St. Patrick’s Day-themed treats, hot cocoa bombs, Girl Scout cookies and more at Steve & Tammy’s Tavern on Byers from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 14.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day 3.1 Beer Run

Can’t Stop Running Co., a sporting goods store in Piqua, will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day-themed 5K in downtown Tipp City on Wednesday, March 17 from 6:30-8 p.m.

The event, sponsored by Moeller Brew Barn, will require participants to drink a beer or a root beer at every mile of the 3.1-mile race. Those who would rather skip the drinking portion of the race can register for the “non-competitor” event and will not be part of the competitive results of the race, event organizers said.

The race will start and finish on Broadway Street between 4th and 1st streets in Tipp City, with “beer stops” at Harrison’s, Chaffee’s Brewhouse, Tony’s Bada Bing and the Tipp City Eagles. Information about the specific start line and parking instructions will be emailed to participants when they sign up for the event.

Registration is $35 per person and is available at runsignup.com. Race packets can be picked up and final race registrations can be made by visiting Can’t Stop Running Co.’s location at 321 N. Main St. in Piqua on Tuesday, March 16, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Wednesday, March 17, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Packet pickup and race registration can also be done prior to the race at the race venue after 5 p.m. on March 17.

Race participants will be eligible to win one of several prizes.

To comply with COVID-19-related guidelines, spectators are discouraged from attending the event. There will be no after-party festivities, and staggered starts will be implemented to limit the size of the crowd. Participants are encouraged to pick up their race registration packets during early pick-up times to reduce the number of people gathering in one place on the day of the race.

☘️KidX St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Dayton Mall’s KidX Club will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 13 from noon to 2 p.m. in the mall’s Center Court near Macy’s. The event will include live entertainment from Lucky Leprechaun and Woodland Fairy, St. Patrick’s day crafts, and a selfie station for themed photos. Children will have a chance to learn Irish dancing and take home a pot of gold (or bag of goodies).

Though the event is free, guests are required to register by visiting Eventbrite. Event registration opens on Wednesday, March 3.

Guests are also required to wear a mask and practice social distancing while attending Dayton Mall events.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day Party at Third Perk Dayton Mall

The Dayton Mall will also host a more adult-friendly St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Third Perk, located next to the mall’s Center Court on Saturday, March 13 from 2-7 p.m. Guests will be able to indulge in Irish beer, food and live entertainment provided by the award-winning Celtic Academy of Irish Dance and Celtic group Jameson’s Folly until 4 p.m.

Though the event is first-come-first-served, Third Perk will be instituting a text reservation system on the day of the event to ensure that all guests have a chance to partake in the cultural celebration.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day Blood Drive

The Dayton Mall will also be encouraging guests to show their support for the American Red Cross by donating blood on Wednesday, March 17 from 1-7 p.m. The event will take place at the mall and participants can register to donate blood by visiting the American Red Cross’s website.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day at The Dublin Pub

Though all tickets for the indoor part of the celebration are sold out, there are still some tables available for outdoor dining and celebratory drinks on Dublin Pub’s patio. Each table can be reserved on The Dublin Pub’s website for $100. The tables can be reserved in four-hour blocks of time from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The music lineup will be:

  • 7-10 a.m.: Jameson’s Folly
  • 10:30 a.m.: Celtic Academy of Irish Dance
  • 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Father, Son, & Friends
  • 1 p.m.: Miami Valley Pipe and Drums
  • 1:30 p.m.: McGovern Irish Dance
  • 6:30 p.m.: Celtic Academy of Irish Dance
  • 7-9 p.m. and 9-11 p.m.: Castle Close

There is no table service and only a limited outdoor food vending area. There will also be a special limited menu with St. Patrick’s Day fare for carryout.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day at Lock 27 Brewing

Lock 27 Brewing will be celebrating the big day with musical guest Dennis O’Hagan as a part of his Great Brewery Tour. O’Hagan will be performing traditional Celtic and Americana music and sharing tales about his travels.

☘️St. Patrick’s Day at Toxic Brew Company

Though Toxic Brew Company could not throw a large-scale St. Patrick’s Day bash, due to the coronavirus pandemic, they will be hosting a celebration of sorts with $4 green Jello shots and $5 shots of Tullamore D.E.W. Capacity will be limited, so owners are asking customers for patience.
